Run Disney – A non-runners experience.

Hello!

You may have read some of our other posts about the Race weekends at Disneyland Paris. If not, then go read them – they’re great!
[links will be here]
But…
What if you’ve never run before?
A year ago that was me! I’d tried couch to 5k a couple of times but, honestly, even the first week was hard!!
But seeing my friends’ photos from the first run weekend, and the wonderful Facebook group for all things DLP Run related, Run DV, made me decide that 2017 race weekend was for me!
I got some trainers, and some running clothes and after reading about it on Run DV got the Jeff Galloway 5k app. And more impressive than anything – I finished the programme! (Check it out if, like me, you found C25K a struggle, it’s much more encouraging for brand new runners.)
So knowing that I could do a 5k meant I had the confidence to book to do it at DLP.
And how was it?
AMAZING!
I was nervous of getting swept (being too slow and not being able to finish the race) so didn’t really stop for character photos, which I now regret as even at my slow pace, and walking and chatting for a lot of the 5k, I finished with loads of time! I definitely won’t worry about time next year and will slow down (even more!) and enjoy it more.
I’m also going to go for 10k, as the difference the crowds and Disney Magic on the day made was incredible. I ran all the way from the Start Line (at the Sequoia Lodge) to Walt Disney Studios Park. Not far for real runners, but for this newbie – by far my furthest!
It’s really spurred me on to keep on with the running and aim for more next year.
I’ll never do the half though!
